Namibian Dunes

This moment would not have happened without the unusual rain that fell in the desert the day before. When we first visited Deadvlei, one of Namibia's most recognisable photographic landscapes, its centuries-old trees stood in a grey clay pan beneath wet-streaked dunes and heavy clouds. The place was fascinating, but far from its most photogenic. We returned that evening, hoping the ground would have dried. In golden light, we had Deadvlei almost to ourselves. Yet it was the surrounding landscape, and these wonderfully curved lines, that drew my eye:
